PRESS OPINION

Sir,—l must congratflate you on your leader in your issie of 12th inst. re Mr. Savage's Sydney <pisode. There is one interesting featwe worthy of note. The Rt. Hon. M J. Savage. M.P., Prime Minister of Jew Zealand, has been quite unable, ashas been his wont with the local press, to threaten the free press ot Australh. Indeed, he has been forced to pay it a compliment. This is a very interesting feature of Mr, Savage's little Sjdney adventure. Mr. Savage has pla>ed himself in an impossible positkn. He fulminates against the New Xealand press, which his position forblls him do against the Australian pres:; and yet the New Zealand press is every bit the equal of the Australian piess. It will he the duty, and also the pleasure, ot the electors, on election day, to relieve Mr. Savage of his embarrassing situation.—l am, etc., "FREE PRESS."
