President Roosevelt in Washington asserting that th(
United States was resolved to maintain peace in the North and South American continents, and that neither Fascism nor Communism would he allowed to obtain a foothold in either of the Americas: and with the United States Ambassador to Peru, speaking at Lima, urging the Latin American nations “to present a united front against old world predatory forces seeking new or lost fields to conquer,” it is possible that the United States of America is coming out of its isolationism because the danger is creeping near to its door. With Brazil turned Fascist, with Mexico asserting its right to expropriate property when it happens to be oil wells and refineries, with Germany carrying on extensive propaganda campaigns in South America, and with Italy staging- long-distance flights to the same continent, and with Japan seeking to buy the oil produced from the stolen refineries in Mexico, and lastly, with the prospect of a Fascist Spain rising above the horizon, it is not surprising that the United States should bestir herself and come to look like acting.
