l ALEDICTORY Last Friday there was a larga gathering in the hall to larewell Mr and Mrs Fred Smith and Miss Smith, who are leaving the district. Had an epidemic ot measles not been prevalent the hall would have been overcrowded. As it was a most enjoyable social and dance was held, Mrs Freda Cunningham supplying excellent dance music, while reels and tap dances were given by Mr Hilary Glasgow and Misses Jean Baldwin and Barbara Cleave.

The presentation ot a leather suitcase and well-lilled wallet was made by Mr C. C. Baldwin, who emphasised the good work done by the family, particularly in the interests of the Golf Club and Rille Club. The hotel had been a general depot and Mr ana Mrs Smith had always been most kind and obliging and their presence in the district would be greatly missed.

Other speakers were Messrs L. Mackintosh, who spoke as a neighbour; H. Hiroti, and T. S. Holmes, all referring to the many good qualities of the departing guests and wishing them the best of everything in the future.

Mr Smith made a feeling reply, after which the guests were accorded musical honours.

GOLF CLUB The medal match played during the week-end was closely contested, the links being in very good order. The best cards handed in were: N. Larkin, 99—36—63; G. Gartley, 87—16—71; C. C. Baldwin, 108—36—72; H. Hiroti, 108—36—72; P. Jones, S. Holmes, 101—24—77; P. Waitere, 103 —33—70; J. V. Blyth, 90—19—71; S. Parr, 108—36—72; J. Paki, 101—27 74; O. B. Hawken, 100—24—76.

This week-end will be open, as many club players arc participating in outside tournaments.

A hidden-hole match is to be played to-day. The draw is: Mrs. Groshinskt v. Mrs Honeyman; Mrs Charteris v. Miss B. Bignell; Mrs Hartley v. Mrt Allison; Mrs Fitchet v. Mrs Trotter; Mrs Strachan v. Mrs Holmes; Mrs Jones v. Mrs Connors; Miss Blyth v. Mrs W. B. Baldwin; Mrs Grant V. Mrs Marumaru; Miss A. Castles v. Mr. O'Leary; Miss D. Castles v. Mrs C. Baldwin.
