TOTAL PLAYERS OVER 70,000 [ Per I’ress Association. ] HASTINGS, April 13. Interesting figures, which show that 71,863 boys 10 years and over in schools throughout the Dominion play football, were made vailable by Mr G. A. Maddison, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Football Council’s committe to report on football in schools.
The figures show that 52,670 of the boys are in the primary schools, 2304 in intermediate schools and 16,889 in post-primary schools. The distribution of the primary school boys in the various districts (with the numbers of intermediate boys in parentheses) arc: Auckland, 15,551 (1632); Taranaki, 2568 (nil); Wanganui, 3832 (202); Hawke's Bay, 3694 (200); Wellington. 6831 (342); Nelson, 188 f (nil); Canterbury, 8794 (346); Otago, 4430 (182); Southland. 3337 (nil).
