NEW ZEALAND ATTITUDE
DISAGREEMENT ON CERTAIN PHASES
STATEMENT BY MR SAVAGE [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 13. “Mr MacDonald’s reply does not altogether state the tacts--that is, if he has been correctly reported,” said the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. ..Savage, in referring in an interview this evening to a statement oy the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr Malclom MacDonald, in the House of Commons on New Zealand’s attitude to the British foreign policy.
Mr Savage said that Mr MacDonald’s reply did not accurately state the attitude of New Zealand to British foreign policy. "We have disagreed with certain phases of Britisn foreign policy, but have never allowed those differences of opinion to divide the British Commonwealth of Nations,” said Mr. Savage. The Prime Minister said that in these days everything was turned into politics, whether superannuation, foreign policy or anything else. “We have got to see that political opinions are not allowed to force us apart,” Mr Savage added. He did not desire to say anything further on the question at the moment. The New Zealand Government was communicating with the British Government to find out whether Mr MacDonald had been correctly reported.
