PLAZA THEATRE
"W'INGS OF THE MORNING”
The romance of a lovely fugitive fleeing from strife-torn Spain, "Wings of the Morning,” enjoying a return season at the Plaza Theatre, introduces a new and exciting screen personality in Annabella, starred with Henry Fonda and Leslie Banks in the film, which presents the world-famous tenor John McCormack. "Wings of the Morning” provides a thrilling mixture of drama, spectacle and surprise, including the spectacular changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and the most sensational Derby ever run, with jockey Steven Donoghue riding his most thrilling race. "King Solomon’s Mines” H. Rider Haggard has been responsible for adventurous, imaginative tales that have thrilled readers since the eighties, and will continue to do so for years to come. These stories have all the glamour and romance that appeal to any imagination, and "King Solomon’s Mines” is probably the best of these. The screen version Plaza Theatre at the "midnight” begins at the Easter season at the matinee to-morrow night. As Umbopa, Paul Robeson has never been seen to better advantage. He sings three songs during the action of the film in glorious voice, and acts with conviction. Sharing all honours is Cedric Hardwicke as Allan Quartermain, adventurer. Roland Young makes Commander Good an interesting, friendly little fellow, with brilliance, and the romantic interest is sincerely handled by Anna Lee and John Loder. The story of Kathy O’Brien and her diamond-mining father who obtain a wagon-lift from a hunter, Allan Quartermaln, and who are later joined by Commander Good and Sir Henry Curtis, explorer and adventurer, with the powerfully-built Umbopa for driver and guide, makes interesting material.
