FEILDING CANDIDATES

YESTERDAY’S GALLOPS (.Special lo "Chronicle." t PALMERSTON N., April 12. The weather was tine though overcast for this morning’s work at Awapuni and the going was good thougn a trifle dead. I'he flags were lo teet out from the fence ana there were a number of interesting trials. Among the horses which appeared to go particularly well were Oratory, maligning Lass, The Bigot and Silver River, wmle Great Hope and Lady Ina went pleasingly in a six furlong flutter. Oratory tG. K. Tattersall) was galloped seven furlongs, being picKcu up by Ambition (Lilley) at the nalf-milc. Oratory began with her usual brilliance and she ran "the first tnree in 39sec. Then Ambition joined in ant the half-mile was covered tn 51 4-a sec. and five in 1-5 1-5, ana Oratory finished in front to complete the fuu journey in 1.30. She finished very strongly and she is wonderfully fit. Silver River Pleases. Silver River tJ. Chaplin) and The Bigot (Tattersall) were associatea over six furlongs and tney were together all the way. The fractional times were 25 2-osec., 38sec. and 51 l-ssec., and they cut out the full distance in 1-16 4-5. The Bigot was a head in front at the post out Silver River, on the outer, was going very nicely.

Laughing Lass (J. Pratt) had no dilticuity in running five turlongs in 1.2, the first three having taken her 36 4-ssec.

Ecstatic (I. Howe) was just in front of Raratonga (Chaplin) at the end of four furlongs cut out in 51sec. The last two took them 25sec. Warehi (W. Little) comfortably scored from Sky Full (S. Anderson) at the end of tneir work-out on the plough, and the last five furlongs were run in 1.8.

Noisy Night (H. Johnstone) also workea on the plough, taking 1.74 for the last five.

Puroto (Chaplin) galloped seven on the course proper, going well throughout.

Great Hope (Tattersall) was sprinted six furlongs with Lady ina (W. Little) and tnere was little between them at any stage. The fractional times were r4sec., 25 3-ssec., 37 2-ssec. and 51sec., and they completed in 1.17 1-5.

W. Little will ride Old Bill at Feildtng and R. Sargent will pilot Florence Mills.

Dainty Sue (N. Voilre) and Sporting Gift (Howe) were clear of Oriwat (C. Thomson) at the end ot three furlongs cut out in 38 2-ssec. Jubilee Song (A. McDonald) beat Old Surrey (S. Anderson) over a round on the plough, and the last six took them 1.18 2-5.

Aurora’s Love (Howe) and Merry thought (Dye) ran seven in 1.32, the last nve in 1.5 2-5, and Rolling Home .Anderson) finished well at the end oi five run in 1.6 1-5.

Brazil (Johnstone) just beat Old Bill (Little) at the end of half a mile run in 51 2-ssec., and the pair were clear of the Pythia colt (Waddell). Aero Lad (Chaplin) broke 52 for the last four of five, and he was followed by Florence Mills (Tattersall), who sprinted five furlongs in 1.3 4-5, after taking 38sec. for the first three. Feilding Cup Candidate. Catalogue (Johnstone) and Conveyer (Anderson) were galloped a mile on the plough, which was slow, and there was little pace on over the first bit They ran from the seven to the half-mile in 40 3-ssec., and to the three in 53 2-ssec. They came home itrongly and took 1.43 2-5 for the last seven. Catalogue being in front at the post.

Royal Limond (A. McDonald) and Taumau (B. Kowhai) were schcoiod, safely jumping three fences.
