Mr W. J. Gibson Hughes was reelected president at the annual meet' ing of the Wanganui Employers' Association last evening

Mr S. McKenzie, secretary of the Manawatu Employers’ Association and the Automobile Association (Manawatu) was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday.

Sympathy with Cr. L. T. Jones, of Paparangi, who is an inmate of a Wanganui Hospital, was expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the Waitotara County Council.

Mr T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday. Last evening he addressed members of the Wanganui Employers’ Association at their annual meeting.

Mr W. Bruce, an honorary member of the Maori Welfare League, was the recipient of a vote of sympathy at a meeting of the league, the members standing as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mrs Bruce.

Mr A. E. Halligan, chairman of the Wanganui Tramways Committee, ana Mr L. M. Row, engineer, have been appointed to represent the council ai. a conference of tramway authorities at Wellington on April 30 and 31.

Mr. G. N. Boulton, secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, left for Wellington on Monday, where he will give evidence before the Education Committee on behalf of the board in regard to the Education Amendment Bill.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr D. E. Dustin was passed at last night’s annual meeting of the Wanganui Employers’ Association. The late Mr Dustin was a member of the executive of the association at the time of his demise and a tribute to his work was paid in the annual report.

A touching tribute to the memory of a comrade who had lost his lite under tragic circumstances was paid by employees at the East Town railway workshops yesterday. All members of the staff lined up beside the main railway line and stood at attentions as the New Plymouth-Welling-ton express steamed past at walking pace, carrying in the mortuary van the body of Mr. Kenneth Albert Millar. fireman on the engine of the excursion train which was involved in the railway disaster at Ratana on March 26. Mr. Millar died in the Wanganui Public Hospital on Monday night, and the funeral will take place at Wellington this afternoon.
