OFFICER’S RETIREMENT
MANY YEARS’ SERVICE WHARF SHEDS SENIOR STOREMAN After 34 years’ service in the employ of the New Zealand Railway Department, Mr John Aiken, senior storeman at the Wanganui Town Wharf sheds will retire on superannuation on Saturday next. During the last 23 years he has been stationed at the wharf sheds and has given valuable service to the department, shipping companies, merchant and business houses. Before transferring to Wanganui wharf he was at Christchurch, New Plymoutn, Palmerston North, and as signalman at Longburn, a shunter at Aramoho and New Plymouth, and as guard al Te Wcra and Wanganui. As a member of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants he has been a Wanganui delegate to several conferences, besides fulfilling the various offices associated with the organisation.
Upon his retirement, he and Mrs Aitken arc- immediately visiting Australia for two months, returning to live at Aramoho.
