TO PARADE AT DAWN
WANGANUI RETURNED SOLDIERS FEATURE OF ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION Wanganui returned soldiers are to parade at dawn on Anzae Day, April 25, when a wreath will be laid on the War Memorial in Queen’s Park, an appropriate service held and the “Last Post” and "Reveille" sounded. A dawn parade on Anzac Day was instituted in Wanganui two years ago, and such was the attendance of returned men on both occasions that it was readily recognised as the most appropriate means of commemoration for those who had actually participated in the Great War. Other services to be held in Wanganui this year will take much the same form as in the past. There will be a ceremony at the Maori Memorial in Moutoa Gasdens at 10 o’clock in the morning, and a public service on Cook’s Gardens in the afternoon. If the weather happens to be unfavourable the outdoor services in the afternoon will be transferred indoors, to the Opera House and one of the theatres. At night the Wanganui Returned Soldiers’ Association has a spectacular stage work ready for presentation in the Opera House, the purpose being to raise funds for those in its ranks who are in need.
