BOWLING The results of games played on the Waverley green on Saturday, April 2, are as follow: Howie, Fitzgibbon, Marriott, Jeffery 16, Salter, W. Aiken, Bourke, Dalton 30. Fowler, S. FAREWELL GATHERING On Sunday evening there was a very large attendance of members ot the St. Stephen’s Church congregation in the Church Hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs P. Tennent, who have been very active members for so many years. Mesdames P. V. Graves and J. Stewart entertained with delightful vocal items, both solos and duets, which were very much appreciated by the assembly. The Rev. Stanley, on behalf of the Anglican vestry, presented Mr Tennent with a travelling suitcase, speaking in very glowing terms of his work in the church. He had been a vicar’s warden for a number of years. Mr Tennent suitably replied. Mrs Stanley then presented Mrs Tennent with a fountain pen on behalf of the Anglican Ladies’ Social Club. Mrs Tennent had been a prime mover in the club and had been their first president. Such an energetic worker would be a great loss to th® church. Mrs Stanley wished her a very happy trip and safe return to New Zealand.

PERSONAL Mrs Parsons and Miss Jean Parsons, accompanied by Miss N. Glen (Wanganui) have motored to Wellington to farewell Miss Glen and her mother, who sail for England on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs N. Bromiley are on holiday in Wellington and the Wairarapa district. Mrs H. Boyer has left for a holiday in the South Island, where she intends making an extensive motor tour of the far south with relatives. Mrs W. McLean, Dalton, is thQ guest of her mother, Mrs A. Elmslie “Hillside.” Mr and Mrs Malcombe McGregor and Miss.M. McGregor, Masterton, were the guests of Mrs A. Elmslie,’ “Hillside,” during the week-end. Miss McGregor has just returned from several months spent in England, where she attended horticultural colleges, studying landscape gardening, on which subject she is most interesting. St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church held their annual harvest thanksgiving services on Sunday, April 3, when there was a most gratifying display of gifts of produce which, in accordance with the usual custom, will be sent to the Presbyterian Orphanage Wellington. Dr. A. L. Sutherland, a missionary from the Punjab, India, conducted a most interesting evening service. To-night, Dr. Sutherland will again be heard in the church hall, when he will give a lecture and show lantern slides on his work in India. Mr and Mrs A. Butts, Tauranga. are the guests of Mrs A. G. Wallace, Awatea. ’ Mr Butts was for many years manager of the Bank of Australasia in Waverley. Mrs S. Barron has returned from a holiday spent with her daughter, Mrs Swainson, Manukau. Mrs Tennent has left for Auckland, where she will stay until she and her husband sail for Singapore on April Mrs W. Swainson, Manukau, is the guest of her mother, Mrs S. Barron. Mr Halliday, who has been on the staff of the Waverley Post Office for 13 years, lias received notice of his promotion to postmaster of the Raglan office. Mrs G. H. Graham is entertaining her cousin, Mrs Caldwell, of Durban, South Africa.
