ELDERLY MAN SUCCUMBS MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES f Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. Shortly after 10.15 last evening an elderly man, Jchn Kaye, was found lying in a pool of blood outside the back door of his nome at 14 Willard Street, Spreydon. No gun was found alongside the body, but it is understood that the police recovered a shotgun from a section. Mr Kay, who was a retired sailmaker, lived with his wife and one son. About 10.15 o'clock last evening Mrs Kay was silting in the front room when she heard a noise, which she later described as “something like an explosion." She called a neighbour, named Reed, from acrcss the street, and he went to the area at ibe back of the house and found Mr Kay.

Mr Kay had been shot with a shotgun at the back of the head just below :he top of the neck. Mr Need summoned an ambulance and Mr Kay was rushed to the hospital. He was dead when the ambulance arrived. The police were advised and immediately began investigations. SON REMANDED DEATH OF' FATHER. I Per Press Association. J CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. Roland Leslie Kay, aged 46 years, was charged in the Magistrate's Court before Mr. E. C. Levvey this morning with the murder of his father, John Kay. He was not represented by counsel. Detective-Sergeant E. Holmes prosecuted and said that accused was arrested at 3.30 this morning. He asked for a remand until Monday, March 28. The Magistrate assented to the remand. The proceedings lasted for barely one minute.
