MANGAWEKA

KAWHATAU COLLIE CU B A committee meeting of the Kawhatau Collie Club was held this week to finalise arrangements for the trials which commence on March 30. Messrs W. A. and W. L. Bailey have donated a cup, which has been allotted to maiden man and dog scoring most points in any one class. The committee have everything well in hand, and so far the entries are well up to expectation. This points to a most successful meeting. BOWLING The Mangaweka Bowling Club a/c sending two teams this week-end to Taihape to compete in the “Rivertead” Tobacco Cup. GOLF Members of the Golf Club are preparing for the opening of the season, several enthusiasts having held working bees, and from reports will be able to commence at an early date. CROQUET The Mangaweka Croquet Club has had a very busy time with inter-club matches as well as their own local competitions of late. The “B” team completed their last match with Taihape for the cup on Friday last, and were again successful in holding the cup for another season. The last match was played on the local greens which, owing to the very dry weather, were very keen. Following are the games: Mesdames Salt and Dickinson won from Mesdames Webb and Treadwell, 26-21; Mesdames Green and Sutherland won from Mesdames Little and Davies. 26-4. Mangaweka, 198 points; Taihape, 136 points. On Tuesday next Mangaweka play Taihape for the McLeod Cup, and if Mangaweka still retain it, a team from Wanganui will visit Mangaweka on Saturday next. PERSONAL Mrs C. Clent and daughter, New Plymouth, are visiting Mrs L. Moyle. Mr and Mrs E. Paget are visiting friends in Hamilton. Mrs T. Dennis has returned from a visit to Hamilton. Mrs H. C. Wilson, Kawhatau, is spending a few days in Wanganui. During play at school John Ince, youngest son of Mr J. Ince had the misfortune to break his collarbone, and is reported to be progressingsatisfactorily. The Rev. N. Watkins leaves to-day to take up his duties at Wadestown. The Rev. Mutter arrives to-day to fill the vacancy. Mrs R. Lewis and small daughter returned from a visit to Feilding. The Croquet Club are holding a stall next sale day to raise funds to lay down a full size lawn. Mr and Mrs T. Kirkby have left, to lake up their residence in Taihape.
