WIDESPREAD WAR
NOT LIKELY IMMEDIATELY MR. HOOVER’S OPINION Received March 20, 5.15 p.m. LONDON, March 18. “After discussing the situation with the leaders of fifteen nations, I do not believe widespread war is probable in the immediate future,” said Mr. Herbert Hoover, the former United States President, in an interview with the Daily Telegraph. Mr. Hoover added: “There are more dangerous influences than in 1914, but there are a good many reasons for such a conflagration being unlikely. Statesmen are more alive to the dangers than in 1914, and all men are doing their best to promote peace. Most of the principal nations arc not ready with war preparations and will not be ready for at least three ?*ars.”
