WAVERLEY SHOW

SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE ENTRIES SHOW INCREASE PRIMARY PRODUCTS ON EXHIBITION : Good entries in every section and a 1 large at.endance of the public were • .eaiures of the Waverley Agricultural ! and Pastoral Associaion s 30th. annual ! show which was held on the Waverley I Kacecourse on Saturday. Weather con- | ditions were fine but a threatening i sky during the afternoon made rain look very likely. I As in other years the show was well 1 supported by breeders and exhibitors from the South Taranaki district with the result that entries io all sec.ions snowed an increase on last year s figures. The stock was well up to the i usual standard and Jn some cases slightly be.ter, with competition keen for the honours. The ring attractions again proved to be a feature of the show and, with some of the district's best horses competing, competition was very keen. I'hree trotting races were held for horses in the harness and attracted keen interest, the compe.ing horses being well trained animals. These events have been held at Waverley shows for some years now and each year attract more and more interest noth from the point of view of the spectators and tne breeders. The attendance of the public was ' very good and it was expected that the gate returns would show an increase on those of last year. The Waverley show is regarded as a picnic day for many people throughout the southern Taranaki district who never miss an annual show. Visitors were also present from as far afield as Wanganui and New Plymouth. The judge of the ponies was very impressed with the children’s entries and the manner in which the ponies were ridden. The ponies, he considered, were good right through. Mr. A. E. Hunter commented favourably on the draught horses and commented in particular on two of the mares. The judge of the fat lambs said that the entries were some of the best he had ever seen. The pens of fat lambs would compete with anything in the i North Island and the pens for freezing I ■ were also good. I i The following were the results: —
