ORIENT LINER BREAKS RECORD
FROM ADELAIDE TO MEI.BOURNB A new record of mail liners for the voyage from Adelaide to Melbourne was established by the Orcades, the latest addition to the Orient Line fleet, which reached Melbourne on March 4, on her second voyage to Australia, states the Melbourne Herald. Averaging more than 19 knots for the voyage of 515 miles, which occupied 28 hours 53 minutes from wharf to wharf, the Orcades broke the record established by the Orion early last month. During the voyage the vessel was averaging 20.75 knots, but nearing the heads orders were received from the Melbourne agents and the reduced to allow her to berth late in Ihe afternoon. The Orcancn will make her first visit to Now 7,™land on a cruise from Australia next, season, arriving at Auckland on October 28, and at Wellington on October 31. She will be followed by Ihe Orford in December. Otranto t January and Oronsay in -ebmarr.
