RUGBY IN WANGANUI

■ CLUBS TAKE FULL INTEREST I ELECTING A “TICKET” TO THE COMMITTEE I ; If the keen interest of the various ! clubs comprising the Metropolitan ! Rugby Union is any guide, the city is ; in for a first-class Rugby season this • year, with the distinct possioiilty of i Taihape clubs joining in under what is known as “The Moye Scheme." Concerted action has been taken to ensure voting for a “ticket" on the Management Committee of the Metropolitan Union, club delegates having had a prior meeting. The purpose has been to ensure that each club has a representative on the management, and to that end the nominations have not been allowed to overlap. Nominations for office closed on Thursday night and the five nominated for the committee are: Messrs F. Thompson (Technical Old Boys), C. Clark (Marist), H. Whiting (Kaicrau), A. Deerness (Pirates) and A. Grahame (Old Boys). Those five nominations] wili not require a ballot as they; stand, but. Mr E. C. Dallison has been ; nominated as a vice-president on be- i half of Waverley, and if he is not j elected by ballot to that position his* nomination as a member of the com-; mittee will stand. •’ Mr J. Moye has been nominated un- ; opposed for the position of president, i A similar honour has been paid Mr G. ■ Spriggens in the capacity of patron.; | There are four nominations for three vice-presidents: Messrs E. C. Dallison ! (Waverley), A. Lockett (Kaierau), iM. McCashin (Marist) and J. Delves (Pirates). Two selectors have been nominated, Mr 11. Whiting, the present selector, and Mr S. Ambrose, who was one of throe selectors acting for the major Wanganui Union last year. The fact that two have been nominated for selectorial positions does not necessarily mean a ballot, as the meeting may decide to have more than one. Once that issue is decided, and perhaps the meeting may favour appointing three, then adjustments can be made, either by ballot, electing the two nominated, or adding one to their number and electing three. Mr Hague Smith has been nominated unopposed as honorary auditor. It is early yet to assess the talent offering for the various clubs, but there will be little new blood. At the same time the teams of last year will almost all be intact, so the prospects of Wanganui having a fairly good representative side are quite bright. From what has been circulated since the recent unofficial meeting of club delegates, it is understood that Wanganui clubs favour a trial of the “Moye Scheme" with Taihape clubs participating. Clubs feci, however, that the matter should be reviewed at the end of the season. The first club engagement of the year so far as Wanganui is concerned will take place at Easter, Kaierau travelling to Wellington to play Oriental on the occasion of that club’s jubilee, Marist to Napier to participate in an annual Marist tournament I for the Spillane Cup, and Pirates | (Wanganui) will be engaged in a; quadrangular tournament at Wanga-l nui with visiting clubs from other' unions.
