TWO TROPHY EVENTS

EGMONT CLUB ATTRACTION NOMINATIONS ON MONDAY Two trophies, each valued at £25, will be included in the Egmont Racing Club's offering for the summer meeting, to be held on Thursday and I Saturday, February 10 and 12, and these promise to be popular with owners and trainers. On the first day of the meeting the Nolan Cup should attract the best hacks in commission in the southern portion of the North Island, for the stake ot £250 includes a trophyvalued at £25. With £175 of the stake-money, this goes to the winner. The race is run over a distance of nine furlongs. The second-day trophy is for the Tonks Stakes, the open handicap event, also run over nine furlongs. Here the stake is £3OO, ot which the winner’s portion, in addition to the £25 trophy, will be £220. As the Egmont Cup, run on the opening day, is a £5OO event, it may be expected that there will be keen competition for lhe two open handicaps. The sprint event the first day is worth £2OO, and that on the second day of the meeting will carry a stake of £175. The middle-distance handicappers will be catered for on the respective days by the Whareroa Handicap £150) and the Normanby Handicap (£175), the distance of the former being seven furlongs and the Normanby Handicap being over eight and a-half furlongs. The hurdle race each day will have a take of £l5O, and the minor hack races are well endowed, no stake being less than £l5O. Nominations for all events will close next Monday at 9 p.m.

WAVERLEY'S EXTRA DATE

MEETING IN APRIL As the Waipukurau Jockey Club has abandoned the extra permit it acquired to race on one of the days held by the Dannevirke Racing Club, this privilege has now been granted to the Waverley Racing Club, which will hold a meeting on Saturday, April 23. The Waverley Club has lor some time been seeking an additional day s racing, but the difficulty was to transfer a permit to another district while there was still a possibility of its being used in the district to which it had originally been allocated.

SMART GALLOPS

PREPARATIONS AT ELLERSLIE STRETTO GOES WELL. [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. A feature of the final track gallops for the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie this morning was an attractive mile by Knight of Australia, while others to impress were Stretto, Droll, Play On and Rereatu. Owing to overnight rain, the going on the course proper, 45ft. out from the rails, was cutting out slightly. Nevertheless, some good efforts were registered. Captain Bruce and Bronze Ora were the first out and there was little between them at the conclusion of half a mile run in 52 2-ssec. Captain Bruce appreciated the easier going. Knight of Australia was responsible for a first-class trial over a mile, being assisted over the last half-miie by Bonny Belle. He ran the first four furlongs in 52 2-ssec, and complete® the distance in 1.45 4-5, beating his companion, who took 54 3-ssec, by several lengths. Kilonsa was going well within herself over seven furlongs run in 1.37. The best sprint of the morning was that of Stretto, who traversed five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. She ran the first two in 25sec. and was being kept up to her work at the finish.

Aero Queen impressed more than Trevace while covering five furlongs in 1.6, the first two furlongs taking 25sec.

Neil was sent over a mile and aquarter, running the last, round in 2.20 2-5 and the final seven furlongs in 1.42 2-5.

Royal Appellant was holding Gay Broney at the end of a mile which occupied 1.48 3-5. The first half was covered in 54 3-ssec.

There was little between Fleelwind and Aero King in a five furlong sprint run in 1.4 3-5. Both these hacks impressed.

Pasture, Lady Defoe and Rajanya wore in that order at the conclusion of half a mile which occupied 51 2-5 sec. They had a fair amount of pace when they jumped off, the fir t furlong taking 12 2-ssec.

Play On beat Privy Seal by a number of lengths over six furlongs run in 1.19 4-5. He ran the first three in 39 3-ssec and was easing up at the finish. Silver Quex displayed a lot of dash while ru-nning four furlongs in 51 4-ssec. Tybalt ran seven furlongs in Rereatu showed to advantage in the going by reeling off half a mile in 50 3-ssoc, lhe first furlong taking 12 1-5 sec. He was running on in good style at the finish. Thurlap got to the end of five furlongs in I.G 4-5. There was little between Droll arS Ringshot, who finished well clear of Veracious over seven furlongs in 1.32. The first half-mile took Msec, and Droll and Ringshot both impressed. Miss Mestor was just in front of Adsum after traversing a round in 2.11 4-5. the last four furlongs taking 56 4-ssec.
