NEW FIRE ENGINE

WANGANUI BRIGADE ADDITION TO EQUIPMENT NOVEL FEATURES EMBODIED The equi; r cnl of the Wanganui Fire Brigade has been improved by the addition of a new engine. The chassis of the machine, powered by a 90-horsepower Dennis engine, was •imported from England and the body was constructed to the Wanganui Fire Borrd’s specific ions by a local body-building firm. The side delivery is considered to I be a great asset and much time can bo saved with this facility. With this innovation all he tire-fighting apparatus can be handled with a minimum of delay. Accommodation for the men is provided in the roomy interior of the machine, and is a big advance on the old style. Held in position in a rack, gas masks and breathing apparatus are carried in the lid of a crossi locker.

The engine was first used on Christmas Evo, and people who viewed it. were impressed with the strident note of the siren and the flashing red light mounted on the front of the machine. Members of Che brigade are now equipped with new tunics and helmets which are designed on lines similar to apparatus in use in cities overseas.
