AT PUTIKi RANGE NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOI KXAMENT TO-DAY. ‘ The North Island rifle championship tournament will be held at the Putikl range to-day, and further entries were received during the week-end by the ' secretary, Captain S. M. Dixon, Wanganui. The meeting will be conducted ’ under the auspices of the Wanganui- ■ West Coast Rifle Association, and in order to decide the title in a one-day ■ fixture a start will be made at 7.3(1 ’ a.m. The association president, Mr. H. Hughes, who is also president of the Wanganui Defence Rifle Club, has ■ arrangements well in hand. C. Nix, Featherstn, who won lhe ’ National Rifle Association's Championship, lired at Trentham earlier in 1 the year, has entered for the North Island match. H. Hedges, Wanganui, 1 who won the championship last year; • will defend his title, and E. Farley, • Wanganui, who has been selected for the New Zealand team to visit Aus1 tralia next year, will also compete. F. J. Soler, Marton, who has been pro- ■ minent during the past few years, 1 has also entered. The chief range ' officer will be Lieutenant W. Wootton, ' Wanganui. The prize money for this year's event is f.'lU more than it was in 1936. Ten shots will be tired at 300 yards 10 at 500 yards, 10 at 600 yards and a further 10 at 600 yards. The title will go to the marksman with the best aggregate score off the rifle. A handicap aggregate cup will be awarded to lhe highest aggregate scorer with his h-ndicap added to the four shots.
