WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, December 17, 3 p.m. General Situation.—The present depression is passing eastwards oft the Dominion and an anti-cyclone of slight extent is approaching across the Tasman. Pressure is falling again over south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: South-westerly to southerly, strong in places on the east coast of the South Island and in parts of the Cook Strait area, but decreasing and otherwise light to moderate. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rather rough to rough south of Castlepoint and north of Farewell Spit, but decreasing; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds becoming variable and later tending northerly; seas considerable but a decreasing swell. Weather: Fair to fine on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere changeable with scattered showers but soon becoming fair generally. . Temperatures cool but becoming gradually milder. Time of sunset to-day, 7.53 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 4.43 a.m. Phases of the Moon for December.—New Moon, December 3; First Quarter, December 11; Full Moon, December 18; Third Quarter, December 25.
