Aid for Airmen In assist visiting aircraft from the south to locate the Wanganui Airport, the Shell Oil Company has painted an indication sign on one' of its petrol containers at Castlecliff. This consists of a large arrow pointing in the direction of the airport, with “Airport 2 miles” underneath. Swimming Lessons A commencement has been made with swimming lessons as part of the curriculum of the Wanganui Y.M.C.A. Last Saturday it was discovered that of 34 members who paraded at the Intermediate School Baths no fewer than seventeen could not swim. Satisfactory progress has been made with instruction under Mr A. Rounthwaite, physical director, and it is anticipated that by the end of the first week of December all will be able to swim. Taylor Cub Aircraft. The Taylor Cub cabin monoplane imported by Mr. Barnard Owen, of Chirstchurch, has been granted a certificate of airworthiness. The machine arrived in September but the Civil Aviation Department refused to grant it a certificate until last week. Mr. Owen has entered into an agreement with the Canterbury Aero Club so that the machine can be hired to members at 25s an hour, the cheapest hire rate at present operating in New Zealand. The machine is similar to the aircraft being imported by Mr. J. R. Franklin, a member of the WangaClub, who expects his Taylor Cub to arrive in January. Mr. Franklin also intends to enter unto an agreement with the Wanganui Aero Club so that the machine 5 can be flown by club members
