WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorlogical Office, Wellington, Tuesday, November 23, 3 p.m. General Situation.—The recent depression has passed away eastwards and an anti-cyclone is now advancing across the South Tasman. The cyclone in the North Tasman has, however, deepened somewhat and become more extensive, its centre at present being located west of Norfolk Island. Forecast.—Winds: North-easterly to northerly prevailing but changing shortly to southerly or south-easterly over the South Island, force mainly light to moderate but freshening and gales probable later in the far North. Seas (New Zealand waters): Moderate to rather rough about Cook Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising north of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong north-east to easterly winds and rather rough to rough seas in the northern portion, moderate but freshening south-easterly winds with moderate but rising seas in the southern portion. Weather: Mainly fair on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere cloudy to overcast and in places misty or foggy rain developing soon in the northern portion of the North Island, and gradually extending southward. Some scattered showers or misty rain probable also in the eastern districts of the South Island. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 6 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, 70deg. Fahr.; minimum, 52deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.30 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 4.46 a.m. Phases of the Moon for November.—New Moon, November 3; First Quarter, November 11; Full Moon, November 18; Third Quarter, November 25.
