REGENT THEATRE
“HOT MONEY” AND “BARRED WINDOWS”
In Ross Alexander’s current Warner Bros, picture, “Hot Money,” now showing al the Regent Theatre, a comedy-romance dealing with the enterprise of a fast-talking, smoothworking promoter, Alexander is required to wear numerous handsome suits, ranging from tails and morning attire to a shabby, threadbare old suit. As a consequence, during the production, Alexander was forced to make 140 “between scenes” costume changes. His biggest day was seventeen changes, his smallest, four. Playing opposite Alexander in “Hot Money” is Beverly Roberts. Paul Graetz, the noted German character actor, plays the role of an eccentric inventor and Joe Cawthron portrays the much-worried individual who puts up the “front money” for Alexander’s promotional exploits. “Barred Windows,” the new Warner Bros, mystery melodrama, is on the same programme. The picture, based on a story by Jonathan Finn, is said to be one of the most exciting evet screened, with a gun battle between dope runners and police, a penitentiary riot scene, two murders within the prison walls and a jailbreak. Despite its melodramatic flavour the picture is not without its romance, the love interest being developed between a star reporter covering the crimes and the secretary of a reformed racketeer, the latter being slain in his. cell because he refused to join in a scheme of dope-runners. There is a talented all-star cast, in addition to hundreds of extras in the roles of prisoners. Craig Reynolds and June Travis have the leading roles, while others include Barton Mac Lane, Richard Purcell, Addison Richards, George E. Stone, Eddie Acuff, Joseph King, Joseph Crehan, Mary Treen and Charles Middleton.
