FERRY MATE’S DEATH
DUE TO I’EART DISEASE [ Per Pjes3 Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. The death of the mate of the ferry steamer Takapuna just after he had let down the gangway when the boat reached town on the trip from Bayswater at 10.15 p.m. on Friday was found by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at an inquest to have been the result of heart disease. George Simmons, master of the Takapuna, said he had just left the wheel and had come on deck after the gangway was raised when he heard a thud and turned around to find that the mate, George Patterson, was lying on the deck. Witness and another person lifted him to a locker, when he gave two or three gasps and ceased breathing. Dr. Fowler, who made a postmortem examination, stated that death was due to coronary thrombosis. WATERSIDER’S DEATH [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. In accordance with medical evidence respecting the death of Hugh McDonald, waterside worker, aged 63 years, who had dropped dead at the wharf after ceasing work on November 9 because he felt unwell, the coroner found that death was due to coronary thrombosis.
