Wendy's Letter-Box

(Letters to be addressed “WENDY,” c'o “Chronicle” Office, Rox 105, Wanearmi.)

“EVERY DAY I AM PROTESTING TO SOMEBODY 1 OR CRUELTY TO ANIMALS,” SAYS “COLE’S BOOK ARCADE.” Dear Wendy,--The time has flown! Fancy, it’s seven weeks since you enrolled me, and I have only written once since, and that was to thank you. In future I mean to do better. Every day, Wendy, I am having to protest to somebody for their cruelty to animals; it's a shame. Why cannot they see for themselves they are hurting the poor creatures? If people would only stop to think the lives of animals would be far more pleasant. After all they have a hard time now and then with their natural sufferings, such as when food is scrace (when nobody can help it), due to bad seasons. And then where they have to be out in thunderstorms, etc. We can always dress according to the weather, while the poor animals have to do the best they can with what we choose to give them. Let’s all do our best for our dumb friends, Co-ites, and set a good example. My love to you, Wendy, and Co-ites.—From “COLE'S BOOK ARCADE,” Marton.

How very wonderful to read of your though for our dumb friends. Perhaps with a better knowledge of animals and their care, few mortals will offend. Often the most cruel are those whose kindness is a mistaken one due to an entire ignorance of the correct care of their pets and animals. With folk of my clan to assist the Junior S.P.C.A. I am sure much good will result.—Wendy.
