ROAD FATALITIES
DECREASE SHOWN FIGURES FOR 11 MONTHS [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The latest figures for road fatalities for the fourteen months which have elapsed since the new road safety policy commenced in September, 1936, show that there had been 235 deaths compared with 265 for the preceding fourteen months. There had been a reduction of thirty in the number of deaths over these periods in spite of the substantial increase in volume of road traffic. “These facts,” said the Minister ol Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, in the course of a statement to-day, “provide convincing proof of the effectiveness of the road safety campaign. Most of the new proposals will take some time to become fully operative.” he said, “but it is gratifying that good results have already been shown.”
