“RUGBY AT LORD’S”

WOULD M.C.C. AGREE? HARLEQUINS WISH USE OF GROUND □.’he suggestion that Rugby football night be played at Lord's, the home »f cricket in the heart of London, has aroused the liveliest interest. It is not proposed, of course, that goal posts should be pitched and matches played across the wicket which will be used for the Test match against th Australians next year, but on the adjoining practice ground. Even this is only a possibility in the minds of the Harlequin Club, and it has only been talked about informally by members of the M.C.C. The Harlequins have their home at Twickenham, and while they could not wish for a better ground it is too large for their requirements. Spectators who attend their matches are lost in the huge stands, and in the circumstances there is not the proper club atmosphere. So they have been wondering where else they might play, and someone said, “Let’s go to Lord’s.” One is afraid, however, that the cricket.authorities will not be easily persuaded that they can house a football crowd. Besides, the practice ground would first have to be equipped for the game. At the present time there is no stand or seating accommodation, and it is doubtful whether the Harlequins are In a position to bear the cost. So there F.re many difficulties in the way of cat lying out the idea.
