STUD SHEEP FOR NEW ZEALAND

Messrs. Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd., advise that in addition to the Supreme Champion pen of South down ewes at the English Royal Show Messrs. Ellis Bros, have also purchased in England 7 outstanding stud ewes from the Sandringham flock of His Majesty the King. Three of these ewes were sired by Sandringham 127 of 1933, the famous breeding son of Luton Hoo 64 or 1927, two were sired by Sandringham 267 of 1934 who descends from Luton Hoo 49 of 1927, and the sires of the remaining pair were Sandringham 43 of 1933 a son of that other great breeding ram, Luton Hoo 64 of 1927, and Sandringham 189 of 1933, who was by Buckland 21 of 1929, a noted soi? of another famous breeder in Buckland Clipper. This particular ewe, Sandringham 92 of 1936, has also a strain of Buckland Clipper on the maternal side. The three ewes in the champion pen at the English Royal were registered in England as Ford Royal Supreme English Flora, Ford Royal Supreme English Flossie and Ford Royal Supreme English Freda. These were bred by Messrs. John Langmead and Sons. Two of them were sired by Aldenham 162 of 1934, a grand son of Gallon Park H. 156, who is descended from Luton Hoo 988 of 1926. The third of the ewes is also descended from the latter ram through Aldenham 46 of 1933. On the maternal side two of the ewes are descended from Ford Commander, a son of Gatton Park 11. 156. Ford Commander was the sire of Ford Christian who was also imported to New Zealand through Messrs. Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. for Sir Wiliam and Mr. R. M. Perry and who has met with outstanding success in these noted Wairarapa flocks. All of the above ewes were mated to leading English sires before being sent into quarantine and Messrs. Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. are in receipt of cable advice that they have just been shipped to Australia en route to New Zealand.
