CORONATION CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE. The final meeting of the Raetihi Coronation Celebrations Committee was held at the Borough Council Chambers on Friday last. Those present were His Worship the Mayor (Dr. W. J. Feltham), Messrs. A. M. Laing, W. H. Sandford and the secretary (Mr. C. M. Turner). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. T. S. Fagg, J. A. Mcßride and R. Oliver. The final statement of receipts and payments as submitted by the secretary showed that the total receipts made up of public subscriptions 140 9s, entry fees for events on Coronation Day £1 5s 6d, proceeds of Coronation night dance £6 14s 4d—a total of £4B 8s lOd. This sum had been disbursed as follows: Fireworks £lO 10s, dodgers £1 15s, prizes and lollies £ll 6s, souvenir photographs for schoolchildren £lB, sundries £1 5s lid. These payments left in hand a credit balance of £5 ll.s lid. The statement of accounts as submitted was adapUd and the committee resolved that the credit balance of £5 Ils lid should be paid to the Sunday Picture Fund for distribution among local charitable institutions.

At the time of the celebrations, in May the committee had decided that souvenir photographs of the group at thp showgrounds, suitably mounted and complete with photographs of Their Majesties the King and Queen, should be presented to each child who participated in the Raetihi Coronation celebrations. Some time had been taken in obtaining satisfactory quotes and arranging for the supply of the photographs which had be-m duly procured and distributed through the school recently. The secretary was instructed to forward letters of thanks and appreciation to the Raetihi Women’s institute for arranging the judges for the fancy, dresses and to the Waimarino A.P.H.' and I. Association for the use of the showgrounds which had largely contributed to the outstanding success of the Coronation celebrations at Raetihi. RAETIHI CAMERA CIRCLE. 1 The annual meeting of the Raetihi Camera Circle was held on Monday evening last. The following was the annual report which was read and adopted:— The Raetihi Camera Circle was formed at the general meeting of May 10, and commenced with a roll of 24 members, since then 6 additional members have joined. The funds in the camera circle account for year ended September 30, 1937, amounted to ss. This is owing to the fact that the balance of the subscriptions received were credited to the year 193738. The latter to hand so far amount to £2. One field day only was held, this being a trip to Karioi Lakes in May last. This trip was much enjoyed by all and several good photos resulted. Instructional talks have been given at the monthly meetings on the various phases of photography. Monthly competitions are being held within the circle and it is pleasing to note that, judging by the larger number of entries in the later competition, an increased interest is being shown in these. Mr. Bruce Davis also generously donated a trophy for competition by club members and it is hoped that all members will endeavour to put in at least one entry for this competition. An exhibition of photography was held at the Plunket Society’s annual show and this was favourably commented upon. Five competitions were held, namely:— Best photo of Raetihi, won by W.

Mead; best snow photo, won by W. Mead; best photo of Ruapehu, won by L. Anderson; best photo of river scene, won by Miss D. Davis; best photo of bush scene, result not yet drawn. It was decided that the closing date of the Davis competition be postponed till the third Monday in January. A new rule governing competitions was introduced and it was agreed that in future a person may enter any number of photos in a competition, but one photo only from each collection would be eligible to win a prize. Owing to the usual meeting date for December falling just a few days before Christmas, the next meeting of the camera circle will be held on Monday, December 13. Mr. G. Hunt generously donated a cup for club competition, and also offered to supply a miniature to the winner at half yearly intervals. The meeting expressed their appreciation to Mr. Hunt for his donation. For the ensuing year, the following officers were elected; Mr. W. Journeaux (chairman); Mr. L. Anderson (secretary); committee, Miss V. Eastman, Messrs. C. F. Goodman and W. P. Mead. TONGARIRO TRAMPING CLUB. CLUB HUT. As the club is desirous of erecting the proposed hut during the summer months the preliminary work is being pushed on with all possible speed. A fine site has been chosen for the hut and the main route —through from Horopito—has been surveyed. The line chosen comprises grass country, bush and tussock, the total distance approximating 6i miles. Portion of the bush track had been cut some years ago, but there still remained about a mile to be completed. It was to this unfinished portion that members devoted their attention on Sunday last and the effort was a pronounced sucess. The attendance was well up to the average. Axes, slashers and grubbers were wielded for some seven hours, the result being that about 550 yards of the track were completed. Lady members played a most important part in looking to the commissariat, the high altitude and the arduous nature of the work having in the main developed particularly healthy appetites. Next official outing is set down for Sunday 28 inst. when some 10 miles of tussock country between Waiouru and the Moawhango River will be tramped.
