FATAL ACCIDENT
CHARGE AGAINST DRIVER DISMISSED. [ Per Press Association. ) WELLINGTON, Nov. 17. As a result of an accident in Jervois Quay, Wellington, on September 17, in which Thomas Hicks, aged 14, was killed, Sydney John Knight, garage attendant, aged 21, was charged with negligently driving a motor-truck and thereby causing death. The case was heard to-day and the charge was dismissed. Evidence was heard from six witnesses. The defence did not call any evidence. “It is abundantly clear that the accident all happened in a fraction of a second and defendant had a very short time to do anything. He did manage to swerve but no efficiency could have saved this lad,” said the magistrate, Mr. W. E. Stilwell, S.M. “On that ground I propose not to send the matter forward and I shall dismiss the case.”
