Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone extends across the North Tasman and North Island, but it has been losing intensity. A fresh series of westerly depressions is moving from southern Australia across the South Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Variable at first over the northern half of the North Island, but northerly or north-westerly soon predominating, strong about Cook and Foveaux Straits, otherwise moderate but freshening generally south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising on the west coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light and variable winds at first in the northern portion but otherwise northerly to north-westerly prevailing and becoming strong in the southern portion; seas slight to moderate but rising in the southern portion. Weather: Fair to line in most districts at first, but clouding over and rain developing soon on the West Coast and m the far southern districts of the South Island, later conditions becoming more widely unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect.
