RUDE AWAKENING

SCOTSMANS MOVEMENTS [ Per Press Association. ] NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 5. A rude awakening awaited a Scots man named James Crawford whei he came out of hiding and gave him hell' up to the captain of the Britisl tramp steamer Tymeric two days out from Hongkong. Crawford thought that the Tymeric was on her way to Newcastle, England, but it was on its way to the other end of the earth--to Newcastle, Australia, via Ocean Island, Nauru and New Plymouth. When the Tymeric berthed at New Plymouth last night after an exciting voyage that included experiences in the Spanish and Far East conflicts, Crawford was arrested, and this morning he was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with stowing away. Further complications have occurred as the Hongkong military authorities are in quest of a deserter, and have asked that inquiries be made respecting the Tymeric’s stowaway. Crawford denies the implication. The magistrate granted a remand till Wednesday, pending further inquiries.
