WANGANUI SHOW

FUN OF THE FAIR All the fun ot the fair will be available to the residents of Wanganui and district at the annual spring show to be held on the Wanganui Racecourse on Tuesday and Wednesday next. The gathering of sideshows will far exceed anything ever before seen in Wanganui, while the quality of the individual "shows” will reach a high standard of excellence. It is impossible to give a description of the various "shows” which will comprise sideshow alley, they are too numerous. We can say, however, that the space allotted for this section is twice the area used last year, and that applications for space are still coming to hand. The ground steward is finding it difficult to arrange space for all the requirements of the showmen but as it is the desire of the committee to make this show the best ever put on, no stone is being left unturned in the effort to accommodate all applicants. Besides being an important section of the show which gives patrons a great deal of amusement, sideshow alley is one of the most profitable sections and this year the rents receivable will easily constitute a record. The well-known firm of Miller and Davies, Ltd., who have brought their huge plant to the Wanganui Show for

many years past, have notified the ground steward that they will have five of their best mechanical “rides’* at the show next week, viz.: The merry-go-round (with new £5OO or* gan), chair-o-plane, dodgems, miniature railway, and a mechanical novelty never before show’!) in New Zealand. This firm has extended an in* vitation to the inmates of both local orphanages for a free ride on each of their shows, an offer which, no doubt, will give the youngsters a great, thrill. The Russian Cossacks, with theif thrilling exhibition of horse riding will give several performances during both days of the show on a specially enclosed area on the lawn, near the Stewards’ stand. These wonderful riders have received great ovations wherever they have appeared and the local committee consider themselves to be lucky in it being possible for them to secure the troupe for ths Wanganui Show. All sections of this show will be i found well up to the standard of recent successful shows and patrons will have plenty to see during the two days on which the show is being held. It only remains for the public to attend the show in large number (and thtii show the committee that they ap< predate the vast amount of organise ing work which must be done to bring a show to a successful conclusion) so that the finances of the association may be so augmented, that . further improvements can be provided for future shows. y
