WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

POLKIORE MEETING Favoured with bright sunshine the members of the Poukiore Women’s Institute met at the hall on October 20. Mrs McAlley presided and welcomed Mrs Hunt from Gisborne. The usual business was discussed and a sample copy of the pretty Christmas card and calendar was shown to members. Mrs Walker gave a most interesting demonstration on the making of organdie flowers. The results of the competitions were: Prettiest coat hanger, Miss E. Dalziell 1, Mrs Me Al by 2; prettiest shoe trees, Miss E. Dalziell 1, Miss McAlby 2, Mrs S. McAlby 3. Competition for next month will be a bowl of flowers arranged for effect and a sponge without butter. Hostesses for November, Mesdames A. McAlby and Wall. Clark, Mr Hugh Campbell, Mr P. Huth, Mr John Gray and Mr John Page-Blair. The Rev. Father Woodruffe performed the ceremony. The organist played suitable selections before the service and at its close.
