THE WANGANUI SALE VALUES FULLY FIRM. Regarding the weekly Wanganui stock sale yesterday, Messrs., Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report as follows: To the usual good attendance we offered a moderate yarding in all sections. Realistions for both beef and mutton were just a shade better to fully firm on last week. No store sheep were yarded. Oddments of store cattle were yarded which sold better and with more enquiry than last week. Dairy cows in mi/k also sold well. AH sections of the pig yarding met a good sale fully firm on last week. Vealers sold at high values in sellers’ favour. Fat sheep.—Light woolly ewes, to 33s 6d; shorn wethers, to 30s; hoggets, 24s 6d. 25s sd; prime ewes, 255, 26s sd; light ditto, 19s 6d, 21s; forward, 17s, 18s 6d. No store sheep were yarded. Fat lambs, fat sheep and fat cattle were in heavy supply at to-day’s Addington market, due to next week’s sale being a double one because of “Carnival Week.” Store Sheep.—Only a few pens oi ewes and lambs and medium hoggets were forward, the demand being slow. Spring Lambs.—Too many were forward and there was a decline oi up to 3s a head. Average price was lOd to IOJd. Fat Sheep.—Nearly all the entry was shorn and it comprised abouu 5250 head. A good sale throughout, with little change for wethers, shorn ewes being a shade easier. Best shorn wethers made to 37s 7d and shorn ewes to 32s lOd. The bulk of the good sheep sold as follows:—Wethers, 31s to 335; ewes, 25s to 295. Fat Cattle. —525 were penned and there was a general easing of about 20s a head, heavy bodies being most affected. Best beef sold at from 38s to 40s and in special cases to 42s 6d, medium 34s to 375. Good steers made from £l3 to £l6 10s; good heifers, from £lO 10s to £l4; good cows, from £9 10s to £l3 10s. Vealers.—The sale was slacker by about 4s a h«ad. Store Cattle.—Some station lines were penned and these sold well at up to £7 6s. Cows sold to £4 12s 6d. Fat Pigs.—A sound sale. Porkers, 41s 6d to £3 9s 6d; average price per lb., 72d to 84d. Baconers, £3 9s 6d to £5 10s 6d; average price per lb., 7d to Bd. Store Pigs.—A small entry and a keen sale. Beef values were quoted firm for the tenth successive week at Westfield to-day. The yarding was smaller than last week, few heavyweights being sold. The cow quality was generally inferior. Extra choice ox sold at 41s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 37s to 40s; unfinished, 31s to 365; prime cow and heifer beef, 37s to 40s; unfinished, 27s to 375. Extra heavy steers ranged from £l6 10s to £l7 10s; heavy, £l5 10s to £l6 7s 6d; medium, £l3 10s to £l5 12s 6d; light, £ll 10s to £l3 17s 6d; unfinished £9 to £ll 15s; extra heavy cows and heifers, £lO 10s to £l2 15s; heavy, £9 10s to £ll ss; medium, £7 10s to £9 15s; light, £6 to £8 7s 6d; unfinished, £2 10s to £6 10s. Fewer sheep were traded at easier rates, wethers and ewes being about Is 6d cheaper, making the decline for the latter approximately 5s in twu> weeks. Heavy and woolly sheep were scarce, best wethers making to 38s; medium, 33s to 365; light, 30s to 32s 6d; heavy shorn, 28s to 335; medium. 26s to 31s 6d; light, 24s to 28s; unfinished, 21s 3d to 265; extra heavy shorn ewes, 22s to 255; heavy, 20s to 23s 6d; light, 17s 6d to 21s 9d; unfinished, 7s to 20s; prime shorn hoggets, 20s to 29s 6d; spring lambs, 15s to 33s 9d. An average entry of calves included mostly small vealers and young calves. Heavy runners were scarce. Quotations for all classes were firm. Runners made £3 4s to £9 6s; heavy vealers, £5 to £6 4s; medium, £4 4s to £4 18s; light, £3 3s to £4 3s; smaller, £2 5s to £3 2s; unfinished. 15s to 38s; bobby and rough, 7s to 28s. A smaller offering of pigs consisted largely of prime baconers, heavy sorts easing by about 2s a head. All other classes were fully firm. Choppers made £2 to £4 ss; heavy baconers, £4 Is to £4 8s; medium, £3 14s to £4; light, £3 5s to £3 10s; heavy porkers, £2 18s to £3 3s; medium, £2 8s to £2 15s; light, £2 2s to £2 7s; unfinished, 1 £1 12s to £2; stores, £1 16s to £2 4s; slips, £1 3s to £1 15s; weaners, 10s to £1 7s.
