CONDITIONS IN FACTORIES - REPLY TO MANUFACTURERS [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. In a statement made to the . the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ * and New Zealand Representatives’ Association says in reply to the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation re footwear: In their remarks the New Zealand Federation infer that footwear imported into New Zealand from the United Kingdom is made under rates and conditions that are not tolerated in New Zealand. We wish to remind the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation that we have already twice entirely refuted similar allegations as to working conditions in the United Kingdom, once on oath before the last Tariff Commission to the complete satisfaction of that body. It is regrettable that the New Zealand Federation persists in these tactics, and we definitely say that, as far as the footwear industry in the United Kingdom is concerned, those factories making for export to New Zealand have working conditions which are satisfactory in every way and would more than comply with the New Zealand factory requirements.’ ,
