ACCIDENTAL DEATH

FALL ON STAIRS CORONER’S FINDING. At an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late James McClintock was held at Wanganui yesterday, the district coroner, Mr. S. M. Dixon, J.P., presiding. A verdict was returned to the effect that death was due to a fracture of the skull and lacerations of the brain through accidentally falling down some stairs at Wanganui. Evidence was given by Mr. W. Mair, a tailor, who was engaged at his work in the building where the accident occurred. He said that he saw McClintock leave to walk down the stairs and then heard him trip and fall on the first flight. Witness went down and asked him if he required assistance, but McClintock said that he was all right. Witness returned to the top of the stairs but heard another noise and saw deceased overbalance and fall forward on the last flight. He landed on his forehead on the concrete at the bottom of the stairs. Evidence was alsc given by Dr. H. L. Widdowson, superintendent of the Wanganui Public Hospital, describing the injuries suffered by the deceased.
