Mr E. H. Taylor, headmaster for the past six years at the Hunterville School, will leave this week to take up his appointment as headmaster of Lower Hutt School. Flight-Lieutenant lan Keith and Mr H. Lightband, of New Plymouth, were visitors to Wanganui yesterday. They made the trip to Wanganui and return in the Western Federated (N. 1. Flying Club’s Miles Hawk. Mr H. A. Read, a prominent mining official at Johannesburg, and Mrs Read are to arrive at Wellington by the Awatea on January 10, and, aftei a tour of the principal places of interest in the Dominion, will leave for Australia and Java en route to South Africa. Mr E. G. Falconer, chief clerk and office inspector of the head office of the Stamp Duties Department, Wellington, has ben appointed to the position of Assistant-Commissioner of Stamp Duties at Dunedin. He is to take up his new duties early in November.

Mr G. R. J. Hope, of the Treasury, will leave by the Awatea for Sydney from Auckland on Friday en route for London, where he will take up a position in the High Commissioner’s Office. Whilst there he will take the opportunity to study for the Ph.D. degree at the London University of Economics.

Mr Lowell C. Pinkerton, the new American Consul-General at Wellington, with Mrs Pinkerton, is to arrive at Auckland on October 29. Mr Pinkerton has been attached to the State Department at Washington for some time past and previously was for several years in London. Mr Pinkerton succeeds Mr George A. Bucklin, who left New Zealand last May.
