Miss Alice McPhail, St. John’s Hill, spent the holiday week-end in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs* H. R. Clark *and Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Clark, of Carterton, have been visiting Mrs, Best, at Gonville. Nurse P. Buckley returned to Wanganui last week after a holiday spent at Marlborough, Wairarapa and Wellington. Miss K. Glenn and Miss J. Chaldecott spent the week-end in Hawke’s Bay. The Misses P. and T. Hammond were Marton visitors to Wellington for the week-end holiday. Mrs. E. G. Bridges, Wanganui, was a recent visitor to Wellington. Miss Vose and Mr. Vose, of Carterton, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arrowsmith, Victoria Avenue, for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Lee, of were visitors to Wanganui this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Ryall, Liverpool Street, have returned after spending a few days in Palmerston North. The Rev. and Mrs. Nicholls returned to Wanganui at the week-end, after attending a Baptist conference at Christchurch. Mrs. Collis Brown and Miss Josephine Duncan will be Wanganui visitors to New Plymouth for the golf tournament. Miss Stella Meuli, College Street, left yesterday to spend a few days at Riverlea as the guest of the Misses P. and J. Murphy. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Boyes, Selwyn Street, have returned after a few days’ visit to Napier. Miss Betty Wilson, Wicksteed Street, is visiting friends in Marton.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Jeffs and family, Nelson Street, have returned from Hawke's Bay, where they spent Labour week-end. Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Willis and Miss Joan Willis, College Street, spent the week-end in Napier. • • • • Mrs. E. A. Brown, of Rangiwaea, has returned to her home after visiting her mother, Mrs. C. A. Piper, Heads Road. Mrs. Duncan Simpson, of “Heaton Park,” Marton, will be the guest of Miss Polson, College Street, while attending the meetings being held during the Dominion president’s visit to i Wanganui. Mr. J. Galloway and Misses Lorna and Jean Galloway, of Christchurch, are visiting Wanganui and are the guests of Mrs. M. Haase, Harrison Street. Mrs. E. J. Chesswas, Aramoho, Mrs. M. C. Bellfit, of Wanganui East, and Miss Thelma Pritchard, of Kaitoke, who have been attending a Baptist conference in Christchurch, returned last week-end. Mr. J. T. Werry, St. John’s Hill, motored to Wellington last evening to meet his daughter, Miss Julie Werry, who arrives by the Wanganella today from Sydney on a six weeks’ visit to her parents. Mrs. M. G. Bignell, of Gonville, and Mrs. J. H. Henson, motored to Auckland at the week-end and will meet their brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. E. Cole, on their arrival from England by the Monterey on Friday. Miss Cook and Miss M. I. Chesswas of Sheffield, England, who are visiting Mrs. J. Peat, of Waitotara, were, together with their hostess, the guests of Mrs. E. J. Chesswas, Field Street, Aramoho, for the Labour week-end holiday. Mrs. F. J. Drake, Dominion president of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, who is the guest of Mrs. Duncan Simpson, Marton, will arrive in Wanganui this morning. She will be the guest of the Wanganui branch at a luncheon party at the D.I.C. and attend a meeting in the afternoon. The distinction of being the first Chinese giri in New Zealand to pass the senior elocution examination with honours has been won by Miss Daisy Kee-Sue, of Woodville, who gained 95 per cent, in the Trinity College (London) examinations conducted in Palmerston North last month. Miss KeeSue, it is noted, is the possessor of a charming voice, admirable pronunciation and clear articulation
