TRAINERS AND RIDERS The most successful among the trainers at. Trentham were F. D. Jones, of Riccarton, whose stable produced three winners (Royal Chief twice, and Cerne Abbas), as did L. G. Morris, of Awapuni, who won twice with The Bigot ( although on the second occasion the Australian-bred gelding had to share the honours) and once with Laughing Lass. Two successes were gained by L. J. F. Jarvis (Marton), A. Cook (Te Awamutu), H. S. Greene (Greenmeadows), J. H. Jefferd (Ngatarawa), C. Haldane (Hastings) and L. G. Paul (Wanganui). Trainers who enjoyed a single success were D. T. Marks (Fordell), D. Cotton (Riccarton), R. W. A. Lewis (Trentham), W. Rayner (Wanganui), W. Morrison (Opaki), B. Burgess (Opaki), A. J. Julian (Te Rapa). North Island stables won 21 races (inclusive of a dead heat), and the South Island four. Among the jockeys, B. H. Morris enjoyed a great innings, bringing home six winners (inclusive of a dead heat), his successes being on The Bigot. Royal Minstrel, and Amigo ' (twice). C. G. Goulsbro’ also had a very successful meeting, winning on Suleiman (twice), Black Thread, Cerne Abbas, and Big Dook. Four successes were credited to W. J. Broughton, his winning mounts being Taurangi, Gay Son, Ben Braggie and Rollicker. L. J. Ellis was associated with Royal Chief in his two classic engagements, and R. E. Thomson was the pilot of Donegal in that horse’s two victories over the hurdles. Single wins were gained by C. T. Wilson (Kinnoull), R. E. Horne (Shy), N. Cavaney (Relative). W. Morrison (Lucullus Lad). A. Jenkins (Patagonia), and S. Wilson (Laughing Lass).
