FALL INTO HARBOUR

SKYLARKING SEAMEN. OFFICER JUMPS TO RESCUE. As the result of a mild skirmish on board the steamer Hertford at King’s Wharf on Saturday afternoon, when two deckhands fell about 35ft. into the harbour, one of the seamen, Frederick Gosling, aged 17, suffered concussion and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital. It was while a friend of the injured man, Mr. John Mailen was attempting to prevent him from diving into the harbour for a swim that the two overbalanced and fell into the water. Dazed from the experience, the men were rescued, but not without difficulty, although a line was immediately thrown to them from the ship. When Gosling failed to reach the line, the third officer, Mr. J. Cree, jumped overboard to assist both men to the ship’s side. Gosling was taken to hospital in a St. John Ambulance, his condiiton last night being not serious.
