IMPORTATIONS LOWER MINISTER'S ASSERTION [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 25. “The importation of footwear for the period that has gone this year is substantially less than in the corresponding periods in normal years in the past and the number of men employed in the industry in the Dominion is considerably increased, even after allowing for a numb' of men that have had to be put off,” said the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, when asked whether he had any comment to make on the complaints that recently had been made by the manufacturers on the present state of the foolwear indust M y in ’lew Zealand. He added that all he could say was that the recent statement by the Prime I' lister would be put into effect. The Government stood for the develpomcnt of secondary industries and while conserving the trade with great Britain was committed to a policy of increasing production in the Dominion.
