Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, October 25, 3 p.m. General Situation.—A rather shallow cyclonic depression is crossing the North Island to-day and another and somewhat deeper one should cross the South Island to-night. A slight westerly depression also covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate westerlies north of Auckland, elsewhere moderate to strong south-east to north-east prevailing at first but westerly to south-westerly becoming general by the morning and strong to gale force in places. Seas (New’ Zealand waters): Rough in the Cook Strait area and on the Otago coast, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising on the west coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west to south-west winds and rough seas. Weather: Unsettled, with rain at times In most districts and some heavy falls being probable in the central provinces.
