TECHNICAL COLLEGE OLD GIRLS

ELUKION TEA There was an attendance of over sixty past students on Saturday, when a reunion tea was held at the Royale Willows by the Wanganui Technical College Old Girls’ Association. This was the first tea since the school jubiless and the opportunity of renewing old friendships was thoroughly enjoyed. Included in the gathering were visitors from Marton, Waverley, Patea, Ohingaiti and Wellington, who, in order to attend the functions in connection with the celebrations, have come back to the city where they received their education. Seated at the official table were Miss J. Hume (teacher), Miss B. A. Mollison (ex-teacher), Miss M. R. Wallace (teacher), Mrs. Hughes, of Pahiatua (ex-teacner, nee Miss E. T. Andrews), Mrs. G. R. Jones, of Okoia (ex-teacher, nee Miss J. Gordon), Mr. L. J. B. Chapple (teacher), Miss B. Key (president of the Old Girls’ Association), Miss M. U. Sewell, Miss N. Brock (vice-presidents), Mrs. R. A. Goodey, secretary (nee Rhoda Hanton).

Miss Key, president, on behalf of the association, welcomed the old girls, teachers, past teachers and Mr. Chapple, also thanked those who had come from a distance. She said the numbers were not as great as at the jubilee last year. This was the first reunion and the association was flourishing. A telegram conveying greetings and good wishes was received from Miss Jean McDowell. In replying to the welcome, Mr. Chapple, in a short speech, said it was pleasing to see ex-teachers as well as present teachers at the reunion, and thanked the association for inviting him to be present. Jones (who was the first high school teacher on the staff of the college), Miss Wallace, Mrs. Hughes and Miss Mollison.
