Sir,—From time to time there have been protests from listeners (who, by the way, provide the funds necessary (or the broadcasting service) as to the quality of programmes submitted. Recently we were led to believe that, following the appointment of a director of broadcasting there would be some considerable improvement. However, instead of a gradual educating of listeners to the beauty of music and the purity of our language, it is the opinion of many that we are fast approaching gutter standards. Perhaps, sir, you could tell us the cost of this improvement (sic) to listeners.— I am, etc., PPP '
