Newall, of Christchurch, won the Taranaki circular road race round Mount Egmont, about 100 miles, today. H. Bayley (New Plymouth) ana G. Parker (New Plymouth) gained fastest and second fastest time, respectively. Thirty riders contested the race i* fine weather on excellent roads. H. G. I ' WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. ‘ Leading the field from the summit of the Paekakariki Hill, M. Graham, ft 17-year-old Nelson rider, who had 32 minutes' start from the scratch men, f but who conceded handicaps up to 58 minutes, won the annual 100-mila Palmerston North to Wellington cyclo race on Saturday with ten minutes td spare. The fastest rider was J. Brown, of Auckland, who thus became the 100 m mile amateur North Island road champion for the season. Brown wa4 one of six men on scratch and fin< ished 15th. His time was 4hr. 38mln. 17 2-ssec. 1 Nelson riders did well, filling first and second places and winning the teams trophy. J. Burn (Nelson), who was second this year, was second also last year. Brown, the fasv< est rider, has been doing well in the Empire Games trials and other events. His time was only Imin. IT 2-ssec. longer than the record for the race, set up by F. Grose in 1935.
