NEARING GOAL
JEAN BATTEN BOUND FOR CYPRUS Received Oct. 22, 11.35 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 22. A message from Basra states that Jean Batten arrived at 7.30 a.m. G.M.T. and took off again at 8.10 a.m. for Cyprus. Earlier messages reported her arrival at Karachi at 1.40 p.m. G.M.T. and her departure for Basra at 3.17 a.m. local time.
BROADBENT STARTS ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA Received Oct. 22, 10.5 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 22. The moon was shining brightly as Mr. H. F. Broadbent started across the aerodrome. His first stop will be Rome. He is flying the same Leopard Moth in which he broke the Austra-lia-England record. Mr. Broadbent wheeled the machine out of the hangar unaided. He said he intended to do a good deal of night flying and hoped to accomplish the flight in under five days. He did not know where he would pass Miss Batten.
