Mr. Tippins was driving a light delivery truck down Cutfield Road toward the sea, and as he crossed . Devon Street a car coming to New: ~ Plymouth from Opunake struck the left-hand rear portion of the lorry. Both vehicles skidded round. Th« truck turned completely over and then came to rest on its back, with its wheels spinning in the air. Mr. Tippins, who was alone in th< truck, escaped unhurt in the flrstl somersault, and when the truck start* ed to roll over again his right hand, which was outside, was trapped between the door and the road, and was crushed until the vehicle rolled again. The injury was not serious and, apart from slight shock, Mr. Tip* pins was otherwise unharmed. Tho driver of the car escaped injury.
