THE WORK FOR LEPERS
ENJOYABLE GATHERING A very happy and representative gathering was held on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs E. F. Liffiton, Wanganui East, to meet boxholders and subscribers of the Mission to Lepers from city and suburbs. The work is undenominational, each leper colony being supervised by the nearest mission in that district. The need is urgent, so many sufferers in destitution and rags having to be turned away owing to lack of accommodation and funds. Reports from the missionaries say that the grass is worn bare in front of the gates from their continued begging to be admitted; it is heartrending to refuse such. The r.Xsion is now working at over 100 stations in 25 different countries. In its own homes there are over 600 U lepers and children. The work was never so full of hope as to-day. Large numbers of lepers are seeking help and there are constant opportunities lor extending the work as funds permit. Rev. Hugh Beggs gave an inspiring address on “inasmuch as ye did it unto the least of these ye did it unto me.” Many beautiful scarves were brought to add to the Christmas comforts for the lepers. Mrs Rankin contributed much to the enjoyment of the afternoon by her singing. The proceeds from the boxes and subscriptions amounted to £3O.
